Madison, NJ…The College of New Jersey softball team flexed its muscles on Sunday as the Lions belted five home runs in a doubleheader sweep at Drew University extending their winning streak to nine. TCNJ hit four homers in a 14-2 win in the opening game hit another in the second taking the night cap 8-0.
The two wins put the Lions at 15-5 on the season, while the Rangers fell to 8-11

Jen Hughes (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) had a huge game for the Lions as the outfielder hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam to power TCNJ to the win in the opening game. She also finished with six runs batted in and scored twice.
The power surge didn’t stop there as
Kristin Boyer (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) and
Christina Lizzi (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) also hit home runs for TCNJ with Boyer knocking in three runs.
Adding to the Lion attack was
Tara Harrigan (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) as the junior had three hits, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Julianne Lajiness (Monroe Township, NJ/Notre Dame) collected the win on the mound tossing a complete game allowing the two runs on four hits. She fanned five batters as the junior improved to 6-1 on the season.
For Drew,
Nicole Gagliardi (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Borough) and
Kristin Valle (Merrick, NY/Kellenberg) each drove in a run.

Heather Hoffman (Annandale, NJ/Immaculata) notched her fourth shutout of the season scattering seven hits with eight strikeouts running her record to 7-1.
Hughes again had a huge game at the plate going 4-for-4 with her third home run of the day with three runs scored. Lizzi also had a solid game with three hits and two of them doubles and
Vicki Blevins (Robbinsville, NJ/Monroe Township) chipped in with a pair of hits.
The game was scoreless into the fourth inning when the Lions plated a pair of runs and then started to pull away in the fifth scoring five times.
Gagliardi and
Jennifer McGroarty (Ozone Park, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) each had two hits for the Rangers.
The Lions return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Tuesday, April 4 for a doubleheader at Rutgers-Camden.
